How To Cover Dining Room Chairs
Dining room chairs are often used regularly, which can lead to wear and tear. If your dining room chairs are looking a little worse for wear, you may be wondering how to reupholster them. Reupholstering dining room chairs can be a great way to update the look of your dining room and give your chairs a new lease on life.
While reupholstering dining room chairs may seem like a daunting task, it is actually quite simple with the right materials and instructions. If you are not comfortable reupholstering chairs yourself, you can always hire a professional to do it for you. However, if you are up for the challenge, follow these step-by-step instructions to reupholster your dining room chairs.
Step 1: Gather your materials
Before you begin, you will need to gather the following materials:
- New fabric
- Foam or batting
- Upholstery tacks or staples
- Hammer or staple gun
- Screwdriver
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Needle and thread
Step 2: Remove the old fabric
The first step is to remove the old fabric from the chairs. To do this, carefully remove the tacks or staples that are holding the fabric in place. Once the old fabric is removed, you can discard it.
Step 3: Apply the foam or batting
If your chairs are not already padded, you will need to apply foam or batting to the seat and back of the chairs. This will provide cushioning and make the chairs more comfortable to sit on. To apply the foam or batting, simply cut it to the size of the seat and back of the chairs and then glue it in place.
Step 4: Cut the new fabric
Once the foam or batting is in place, you can cut the new fabric. To do this, measure the seat and back of the chairs and add 2 inches to each measurement. This will give you enough fabric to wrap around the edges of the chairs. Once you have measured the fabric, cut it to size.
Step 5: Wrap the fabric around the chairs
To wrap the fabric around the chairs, start by placing the fabric over the seat of the chair. Then, pull the fabric taut and wrap it around the back of the chair. Secure the fabric in place with upholstery tacks or staples. Once the fabric is secured, trim any excess fabric around the edges of the chairs.
Step 6: Finish the chair
To finish the chair, simply screw the seat back onto the frame. Once the seat is secured, your chair is reupholstered and ready to use!
